Importance of Isomerization Assignment
Use the following site to answer the following questions. Feel free to look at additional sites if
needed to enhance responses.
Examine all parts of the link carefully to investigate the
relationship of isomerization to the outcome of taking thalidomide on children
born in the United States.
After reading answer/complete each of the following on a separate
sheet of paper and turn in at the end of class.
Each student needs to turn in own work separately using their own
words.
- Explain
how the chemical/physical properties vary for molecules that exhibit the
property of isomerization.
- For
each of the following types of isomerization complete the organizer
located on the screen on a separate sheet. Be sure to include a representation
of the molecules to show differences.
- Describe
the overall impact of the drug thalidomide on the scientific community and
general public?
- Could
using the R form of the isomer have prevented this tragedy? Why or why
not? Explain your reasoning.

Average Atomic Mass Tutorial
Complete lesson 2 and check work to self assess to help prepare for upcoming assessment next week.
You will need to know the definition of Average Atomic Mass
Why the number on the periodic table makes sense
How to calculate the average atomic mass for any given element

Particle Zoo Inquiry
Please complete ONE of the task with a partner and be prepared to share out in small groups or with the class. Email Mrs. Voiers the answer to one of the following tasks before the next class period.
1. Compare the characteristics of sub sub atomic particles. What information do we know about these unusually names particles?
2. How do particle physists observe these particles? What evidence has been collected to determine their characterisitcs?
3. Describe one research project that is currently underway regarding particle physics. What could be the potential benefits and/or limitations of this project?
4. Write your own question and ask for approval before researching.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f5AkWFTBT4 is a video tutorial
