polarity review for AP Chemistry

VSEPR Theory Webquest

Focus for reading selection:

What is VSEPR Theory and how does it apply to the arrangement of atoms in a molecule?

1.   Read pages 112-114 of the molecular geometry packet concerning VSEPR theory
2.   Annotate in the margins of the text as it relates to reading focus only
3.   Use a highlighter to identify key ideas that relate to reading focus only.

When finished with text selection, interact with the following website for visual models of the different geometries of different molecules.  Feel free to sketch in your notebooks or in reading selection.

Particle Zoo Inquiry

Particle Zoo Inquiry

Please complete ONE of the task with a partner and be prepared to share out in small groups or with the class.  Email Mrs. Voiers at shawna.voiers@lewis.kyschools.us the answer to one of the following tasks before the next class period.

1.  Compare the characteristics of sub sub atomic particles.  What information do we know about these unusually names particles?

2.  How do particle physists observe these particles?  What evidence has been collected to determine their characterisitcs?

3.  Describe one research project that is currently underway regarding particle physics.  What could be the potential benefits and/or limitations of this project?

4.  Write your own question and ask for approval before researching.....
